Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
In this ongoing classroom we will begin learning about math (basics) and what it takes to understand the difference between addition and subtraction. We will use manipulatives and objects to help us visually see what it looks like to add and subtract. Each week will consist of learning a different concept and each learner will get an opportunity to help in some way.

This is a Montessori inspired math class and here is a breakdown of each week. Each class is session is 4 weeks.

Week1-First week of each month
We will have a great time learning about numbers and how important they are. We will engage in conversation while talking about our knowledge of addition and subtraction. We will also talk about the adding symbol and subtraction sign. Children are encouraged to bring their manipulative to the first class.

Week2- Second week of each month
During week two we will dive into strictly adding numbers together and what it means to add. All learners need to bring manipulatives to class to help them stay engaged and excited about math.

Week3- Third week of each month
During week three we will discuss what it means to subtract and take numbers away. I will give many examples and I will also allow learners to use their manipulatives to problem solve as well.

Week4-Fourth week of each month
During week four I will challenge the children and review the concepts we have discussed throughout the previous weeks. I will also begin by giving them two digit problems and teach them how to count up. This will begin helping them to problem solve larger numbers.

At the end of this four week course your learner will understand the difference between addition and subtraction. Learners only need to know how to count up to 10 in order to take this course. Everything else can be learned during this 4 week course.

Learning Goals

The children will begin learning how to process basic math skills (addition and subtraction), while engaged and having a great time. It is also my goal to help learners understand the difference between addition and subtraction.

I have worked in public, private and home-school programs.. Each one of them are very special, but through it all I was given an opportunity to teach a Montessori class and I loved it.Math is one of my favorite subjects and I teach it on many different levels. The beginning stages of math is very important and this is why I spend so much time with young learns. Helping to set the foundation is very important to me. With that being said, do you know that many people learn best the Montessori way. I feel that this is my area of expertise, because I have studied this way of learning for many years and this is also the way I learn best. I also continue educating myself on ways to improve this learning style.
