During this hands-on math class, learners will begin identifying two and three digit addition and subtraction with regrouping and borrowing . After we have reviewed subtraction and addition we will begin our first class regrouping 2 and 3 digit numbers. Learners do not have to have prior knowledge when it comes to recouping and borrowing, but they need to know how to add and subtract. This is a very open ended class and learners do not have to feel pressured to do anything, but my job is to help them feel comfortable and excited about math. Day one- During day one we will review the simple but fun concepts of addition and subtraction as a refresher to all students. Then we will begin and two and three digit numbers with regrouping. Leaners are encouraged to ask questions, I will also ask open ended questions as well. Day two- During day two we will review what was learned in the previous class and learners are encouraged to ask any questions they may have. Then we will dive into substation with borrowing and this is often the most exciting part in this class, because learners have a fun time learning about borrowing. We will begin using two digits and as they feel comfortable, I will move into three digit numbers. I have many different learning styles but my best and favorite is Montessori inspired. During this class I will help children identify how they learn math best and they are free to bring whatever material they have available. The Montessori approach would be used to help children understand two digit addition and subtraction. Montessori-This method of education is based on self directed activities, hands-on learning and collaborative play. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the teacher offers age-appropriate activities to guide the process.
