Math Investigators: An Ongoing Hands on Math Class

This class is taught in English.
Students will strengthen their understanding of various mathematical concepts, such as place value, multiplication and division. After the first few weeks, topics covered in class will be selected based upon the needs of the learners. Focus will also be paid to increasing students confidence in themselves as learners in mathematics.
I am an elementary school teacher who is passionate about helping students learn to see themselves as capable mathematicians, no matter where they begin their journey. I have had great success with students of various levels using the techniques I will be drawing from in class. I have also taken part in many professional development workshops designed to strengthen my practice as a mathematics educator, such as workshops by Carole Fullerton.
Homework Offered
Optional activities for practicing skills will be provided. These will take the form of games, open-ended questions, art projects, and other engaging activities.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Learners will be informally assessed through oral feedback given in class. Written comments can also be provided if requested.Grades Offered
This list will be updated as new weeks are added. Leaners will need a pair of dice, a pencil, an eraser, construction paper in various colours, scissors, markers, pencil crayons, counters, Lego blocks, popsicle sticks, scissors, liquid glue and dominoes.
Optional activities will be given for learners to expand their learning, some of which will invite family members to get involved. Parents may also wish to supervise the use of scissors and art supplies, to ensure safety and that mess is kept to a minimum.
