Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 6
Each mission, I will introduce three vocabulary words that will be in the chapter. Then students will listen to the next chapter in the story of the English children who live in Grammar Galaxy. We will then discuss the vocabulary introduced in the chapter and students will create sentences using the new words. Next, I will read the letter from the English children that tells the class their mission.

Their mission will involve solving a problem that the Gremlin or other unfortunate circumstance has created in the Galaxy. They will solve the problem by practicing a language arts skill. The mission will have three parts, giving students multiple opportunities to practice the new skill and vocabulary. The first part includes review questions, vocabulary definitions, and a page to practice the new concept. The second part includes a practice page connected to the chapter and a game or activity focused on the new concept. The third part includes demonstrating understanding of the new concept and reviewing the vocabulary. When the mission is complete, I will read a follow-up letter from the English children.

Students will complete work independently and as a group. Students will have many chances to share their ideas, answer questions, and ask questions. Depending on the number of students in the class, students may work in pairs in breakout rooms.

In this unit students will focus on writing and learn about:
Week One: Business Letter

Week Three: Descriptive Writing continued
