Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 9
In this one-on-one session, students aged Kindergarten to grade 9 will work on an individual plan to develop and improve areas as identified by their parents.
**Parents please contact me before the first class to notify me of the level of the child, current grade, and specific areas of need. Then, I will develop a flexible plan to work one-on-one with the student to develop the skills in reading, writing, math or the expressed area of need.
My teaching style is very calm and supportive. I have taught elementary for over 12 years so have spent a lot of time improving my lessons and learning to recognize students' strengths and struggles. I love to incorporate student interest into lessons as well!

Some examples of content to be taught include (but are not limited to):
- fractions, decimals and percents
- long division
- multiplication
- 2 digit subtraction with borrowing
- strategies for reading non-fiction
- decoding
- sight words
- writing a paragraph
- how to write a five paragraph essay

Learning Goals

The goals of this class are:
*To increase the student's understanding of math, reading, and/or writing.
*To increase the student's confidence in himself or herself on all future math and/or reading assessments
*To improve the student's note taking abilities (This is often the key to success for many students)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Ms. Amanda and I was born to teach. I have two younger sisters and when I was little, I would play teacher with them all the time. As a child, I even taught my sister Sam how to read. I love reading and Harry Potter is my all-time favourite series (yes that is how you spell favourite in Canada).

Now that I am all grown up, I have had the pleasure to teach everything from Pre Kindergarten to grade 6, Adult Basic Education and college level courses. I was even the Principal and Student Support Teacher of a small school for a few years! I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, a BEd, a Masters of Science in Education with a specialist in reading and literacy and am currently a Doctoral Candidate.

I believe that all students can learn when the teacher recognizes student choice and multiple intelligences, and when strong relationships are fostered through listening and sharing. This will develop a lifelong love of learning.

I can't wait to virtually meet my students from across the continent!

Talk to you soon,
Ms. Amanda
