US Grade 3 - 6
In this one-time class, students will have a collaborative guided discussion on J.K. Rowling's novel, The Christmas Pig. We will complete a five finger retell, make self-to-text, text-to-text and text-to-world connections, and discuss literary devices in use, such as symbols. We will also discuss major themes present in the book. Finally, students will participate in a speed round, where they answer recall questions about the text. Please come having read the whole novel! Spoilers might be present for those who have not completed it! I also encourage students to bring the novel with them to the zoom class so that they can refer back to it as a reference (which is a great reading and comprehension strategy!).

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Ms. Amanda and I was born to teach. I have two younger sisters and when I was little, I would play teacher with them all the time. As a child, I even taught my sister Sam how to read. I love reading and Harry Potter is my all-time favourite series (yes that is how you spell favourite in Canada).
Now that I am all grown up, I have had the pleasure to teach everything from Pre Kindergarten to grade 6, Adult Basic Education and college level courses. I was even the Principal and Student Support Teacher of a small school for a few years! I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, a BEd, a Masters of Science in Education with a specialist in reading and literacy and am currently a Doctoral Candidate.
I believe that all students can learn when the teacher recognizes student choice and multiple intelligences, and when strong relationships are fostered through listening and sharing. This will develop a lifelong love of learning.
I can't wait to virtually meet my students from across the continent!
Talk to you soon,
Ms. Amanda
