Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
In this ongoing class, students will read one book a week. In the class we will discuss the book, recalling elements such as plot, characters and setting. We will make self-to-text, text-to-text and text-to- world connections. Students will be given an opportunity to compare books, explore about the authors and connect with other learners who have similar interests! We will also dig into other literary terms, such as simile, onomatopoeia, and emanata!

Please come to class with the book we will be discussing so that you can refer to it throughout class. Make sure you read the book before class starts so you can participate in the discussion (and so we don't give away any spoilers!).

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Ms. Amanda and I was born to teach. I have two younger sisters and when I was little, I would play teacher with them all the time. As a child, I even taught my sister Sam how to read. I love reading and Harry Potter is my all-time favourite series (yes that is how you spell favourite in Canada).

Now that I am all grown up, I have had the pleasure to teach everything from Pre Kindergarten to grade 6, Adult Basic Education and college level courses. I was even the Principal and Student Support Teacher of a small school for a few years! I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, a BEd, a Masters of Science in Education with a specialist in reading and literacy and am currently a Doctoral Candidate.

I believe that all students can learn when the teacher recognizes student choice and multiple intelligences, and when strong relationships are fostered through listening and sharing. This will develop a lifelong love of learning.

I can't wait to virtually meet my students from across the continent!

Talk to you soon,
Ms. Amanda
