Description
Class Experience
This math class is presented to grade 2 students and has been developed using the second-grade common core state standards for mathematics to develop the course of study for second grade students. In this semester class the students develop an understanding of Addition and Subtraction Strategies with two and three-digit numbers. The students will be presented and interact with two weekly lessons that will review prior knowledge of mathematical skills and be introduced to new...
The student will increase their knowledge of mathematical reasoning in using addition and subtraction strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems with two and three digit numbers.
Throughout my tenure as an elementary and special education classroom teacher I have taught math to a wide range of levels. From kindergarten to 9th grade algebra and whole class/group instruction to small group intervention. I have taught different types of math programs from the traditional to investigations programs. I feel, each of these math programs have different strengths and weaknesses. I feel teaching a combination of new strategies and traditional techniques help students strengthen their mathematical reasoning and applications skills in mathematics.
Students will complete one weekly homework assignments as part of their ongoing math class within the power point slides from class. No need to print the homework sheets.
1 file available upon enrollmentpaper and pencil optional- write and wipe small whiteboard -optional printed assignment pages
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
As an introduction to Addition and Subtraction in grade 2 mathematics. I will assess the students mathematical knowledge and reasoning skills with a quick assessment of skills. I will complete informal assessments throughout the lessons. First, during the students active engagement at the beginning of the lesson. Then, during the middle of the lesson during student application of new skills. Also at the end of the lesson, I will be assessing the students completed assignments and tasks.
2 hours per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
