Ghibli Animation Drawing Course (Part 2) - FLEX

In this Flexible Schedule course students will have a chance to look over all the basic drawing techniques but also explore some of the more challenging themes in drawing while recreating some iconic Ghibli characters and scenes at their own pace.

Each week students will have a new project to work on and a new drawing technique to explore. We will be covering basics on understanding anatomy and proportions while drawing faces and posture, working on creating a balanced composition, developing a character, combining references, shading, speed drawing and much more. The course is created to be fun, engaging, but also useful. 

I will be uploading a video with a full length drawing process at the beginning of each week, so that the students can follow along and draw together with me. Drawing process will be divided into a few steps with detailed information on what we are doing and why. I will only be doing a line drawing in the video, but I will be also giving useful tips and options for coloring (which will be optional). Students will have one week to finish each piece and send it to the teacher through private messaging or upload it to the classroom.

Students will receive a personalized constructive feedback on their work each week, as well as support and encouragement when needed during the drawing process. I will also promote student communication with each other by posting an interactive activity for the students to work on together each week, which will include trivia questions about their favorite Ghibli animation and characters. We will also be playing True or False and research fun facts about our favorite anime. Students will also be able to discuss and compliment each other’s weekly projects in our virtual classroom.

Here's a full list of the themes covered in this course:

1. Silly and Smiley Totoro and the Cat Bus from "My neighbor Totoro".  We will talk about mimics and how different emotions can be expressed in drawing.
2. Drawing Baron from "Whisper of the Heart. Creating Cat characters.
3. Howl and Sophie from "Howl's Moving Castle" We will talk about drawing creatures with superpowers, learn about drawing profiles and drawing hands in anime.
4. Tea party with Zeniba, Chihiro and No Face from "Spirited Away" We will talk about interesting angles in drawing and discuss food illustration.
5. A scene from "Secret World of Arrietty" We will talk about foregrounds and backgrounds, and discuss the concept of rhythm in drawing.
6. A scene from " When Marnie Was There" We will learn drawing human body in motion. We will talk about basic structure of the human body and ways to apply this structure in drawing.
7. Princess Mononoke, Kiki from "Kiki's Delivery Service" and Howl (human form) from "Howl's Moving Castle". This class will be an in-depth research of drawing human faces and various ways to draw facial features in anime.
