1-2 hours per week. Learners will be assigned vocabulary lists to study at home. Worksheets to complete such as verb conjugations, fill-in the blanks and labeling/matching exercises. These can all be uploaded to the classroom tab or by messaging the teacher. It is also recommended learners study from their notebooks after class.Assessment
Certificate of completion will be given to all learners who complete the course.Class Experience
This class is tailored to start from the very beginning, helping students to feel more comfortable speaking French. We will focus on sentence structures, vocabulary, conversational skills, and comprehension. Class Format: - Introductions & Ice Breakers - Topic of the Week presented - Guided Listening - Guided Practice (group and pair work) - Wrap-up Vocabulary Review WEEK 1 INTRODUCTIONS & GREETINGS & EMOTIONS, L'ALPHABET Learners will be introduced to French greetings. They will learn how to introduce themselves, how to ask for one's name, how to say hello and goodbye, and how to use feeling words. Learners will have the opportunity to practice using the new vocabulary and sentences. Learners will be introduced to the French Alphabet and learn how to spell their name. WEEK 2 LES JOURS DE LA SEMAINE, LE TEMPS QU'IL FAIT ET LES QUATRE SAISONS (Days of the Week, Months of the Year, the Weather & the Four Seasons) What day is it? How's the weather today? When is your birthday? Learners will learn the days of the week, months and seasons of the year. WEEK 3 LES NUMEROS, LES COULEURS, (The Alphabet, Numbers, Colours) We will start with numbers 1-100 and how they are used for time and counting. Learners will learn the colors in French and be able to describe the color of different objects including different hair and eye color. There will be a series of exercises and games for the students. WEEK 4 MA FAMILLE, MA MAISON (My Family, My House) Learners will learn about the rooms in their house. Learners will draw pictures of their dream house that they will present in the following class using the verb "avoir". They will learn the different vocabulary for family and make a family tree. WEEK 5 CE QUE TU FAIS (Daily Routines) The class will begin with their house presentations. Learners will learn new vocabulary relating to commonly used verbs and nouns associated with daily routines. They will learn how to tell time in French and will make a diary of their typical day. WEEK 6 FRENCH CULTURE & LANDMARKS, FRENCH SPEAKING COUNTRIES Nationalities and countries in French. They will be shown some famous French landmarks and French food. We will finish the course listening to some traditional French music. Teacher's note: I will guide the students through their vocabulary words with pictures to help their memory associate words with images, and teaching them how to pronounce words. I will provide students with a copy of their weekly vocabulary to download, print and practice at home, as well as a certificate of completion once they have finished the class. Please be aware of the time commitment required for this course including in class and homework activities. No prior knowledge of French is necessary. _________________________________________ *** Classroom Policies *** - Please have your learner familiarize themselves with the Outschool features such as the unmute button and raising their hand. To protect the safety of all students, the learner must be able to turn on their video so that I may verify their identity. - Homework will be assigned to learners attending month long courses. Vocabulary worksheets and lyrics to songs will also be given to ongoing young learner classes. - Outschool policy is one learner onscreen per account. Siblings are welcome to sign up under different accounts. - Class recordings may be posted to the classroom by request for all multi-day and semester courses.
Learning Goals
Students will learn basic conversational skills including introductions, numbers, daily routine vocabulary and learn about French culture.

Teacher Monique (Madame Monique), spent 15 years teaching English & French around the world. She has taught/lived in 8 different countries and has traveled to over 40 countries.
While overseas she taught children ages 2-16 in private, charter & international schools. Additionally, she helped prepare college/university students working towards their entrance exams and taught adults needing business and conversational English for their workplace.
In 2015 she returned to her home country of Canada and soon after started teaching with two online ESL companies based in China.
She has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts in Criminology as well as TEFL and CELTA certificates for ESL learners.
She has dual citizenship with France, grew up in a French speaking household and attended French Immersion from preK to Grade 12. She is a Native Bilingual Speaker.
Before working in the field of education, she worked in Customs & Immigration and Youth Corrections/Youth Probation.
She is a mom to a 14yr old boy who has level 2 autism and a rare epileptic disorder. She spends a majority of her time dedicated to special needs and inclusion advocacy and is very adaptable, patient and welcoming to all learners.
