Class Experience

This class is taught using pre-recorded lessons, 2 weekly. I will also provide practice worksheets for each lessons and games and websites. There will be interactive posts, where students will post and interact below. For example, students will post examples of fractions they see in their homes. There will be an optional 10 minute weekly live check in for those who would like to join. Homework is due on Sundays each week and will be graded upon request. This will take place on Saturday mornings EST. Also, there will be options for students to team up and create a fractions project, instead of an assessment. This project can be used as an informal assessment and will increase the interactions between student to student.

How will students interact? Students will interact with others by sharing discussion answers and worksheet answers. Also , there is a team project option where students will work together to complete an assessment project. Students will receive feedback biweekly from the teacher in the form of message. There will also be games, such a jeopardy review that can be played with other students.

Week 1 - Week 1 will be a review week. We will review what a fraction is, find fraction examples and begin to add and subtract fractions with like denominators.

Week 2- Week 2 will focus on Comparing fractions with like denominators and unlike denominators. Students will be taught how to find common denominators using multiples. I will provide charts for support as needed and guide students how to use them.

Week 3- Adding Fractions with Unlike Denominators- This week will focus on adding fractions with unlike denominators by finding a common denominator. There will be videos, worksheets and discussion posts.

Week 4- Subtracting Fractions with Unlike Denominators- This week will focus on subtracting fractions with unlike denominators by finding a common denominator. There will be videos, worksheets and discussion posts.

Week 5- Multiplying Fractions- This week we will discuss how to multiply fractions, by multiplying across. We will discuss the differences between other fraction operations in a post.

Week 6 - Dividing Fractions- This week we will learn about how to divide fractions by multiplying by the reciprocal. Student will watch 2 lesson videos and complete worksheets.

Week 7- Simplifying Fractions- This week we will review how to simplify fractions using common factors and dividing. Students will practice on their own using provided worksheets.

Week 8- Review and Assessment- This week, I will provide review games, such as a jeopardy review. Students will be given an assessment covering all the lessons this week as well. Also, there wil be options for students to team up and create a fractions project instead of a formal assessment.

As a teacher, my approach is to scaffold instruction for learners, so they are not overwhelmed with new concepts. I offer organizers and other supports to my students that may be used at the parents discretion. I like to use multiple modes of instruction, such as video lessons, games, and discussion posts.

* Students should have a background in fractions. This is 5th/6th grade curriculum.
