Intermediate Level
In this class, we will build on knowledge of the 6 syllable types, by working on spelling and reading multisyllabic words with a combination of syllable types. Class meets twice a week and always follows the same structure. The first class focuses on reading and the second on spelling the new concept. I teach using the discovery method where student learn to examine words, hear sounds and look at syllables. I have a background in Special Education and am always differentiating classes as needed for my specific learners. Learners will be able to share and collaborate in class, such as for turn and talk discussions. Daily lesson structure: Review: 5-10 minutes New concept/ Notes: 10 minutes Reading/ Spelling Words: 15 minutes Closing Video or game: 5 minutes Weekly topics are : Week 1 : Combining Closed Syllables Week 2: Combining Closed and vce syllables. Week 3: Combining r controlled syllables Week 4: Combining open syllables Week 5: Combining cle syllables Week 6: Review and 3/4 syllable words This class is based on Orton Gillingham Methodology.
