Foundations of Writing
What's included
6 live meetings
5 hrs 30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Each day, students will take notes from non-fiction passages, using the IEW method. We will take notes from a different source text each meeting. Students will begin writing in class, but may need to finish after class. Ideally, students will read their writing out loud in class. Each day a new grammar concept will be introduced. It is unlikely mastery will be reached with each of these concepts, but students will be challenged to practice each one within their own writing. This method works for everyone, but is a great help to struggling writers because it gives them structure and a concrete approach to what should be included in each paragraph. This course is a great foundation in note-taking, writing from notes, and how to structure a basic paragraph.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to take accurate notes, and then to rewrite the information in their own way. Students will edit and write over an extended time period. Students will gain confidence in presenting their work aloud.
