Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Does your child express disdain for writing? Or are they unable to synthesize more than a few terse sentences? If that is the case, you're in luck! This ongoing club is specifically designed for students struggling with writing or for those who do not know how to take their writing fluency to the next level. The main objective of this enrichment club will be to see tangible growth in their work as well as their willingness to write.

Here is a basic outline that can be expected for each 30-minute session:
• Warm-up (topic / mechanic introduction)
• Guided Instruction (reading and revising problematic or inefficient writing)
• *Independent Writing
• *Paraphrasing and Revisions
• Supplemental Activity (if time warrants)
• Writing Homework

This enrichment club will meet twice a week, each week consisting of a unique and practical theme. Here is a tentative list of topics and mechanics per session:

• Week of September 23rd, 2024: "Complex Sentences for Complex Ideas"
       ◦ September 24th, 2024 = A Variety of Clauses to Enhance a Compound Sentence
       ◦ September 26th, 2024 = Verbosity VS Conciseness

• Week of September 30th, 2024: "Stylistic Choices for Author's Purpose and Tone"
       ◦ October 1st, 2024 = Paraphrasing your Informative Text
       ◦ October 3rd, 2024 = Revising your Fictional Narrative

You will begin to notice considerable changes within the first 2-3 sessions. If receptive to the teaching, they will be able to write with ease and clearly express their thoughts and ideas. They may even reach a stage where they begin to write as a leisure activity!
