What's included

4 live meetings
2 in-class hours per week
Homework
1-2 hours per week. At the conclusion of each class, students will have access to a full list of new vocabulary words. Oftentimes, these words will be classified into various clusters based on meaning, context, part of speech, and more. Based on the flow of the class, students will be given a writing assignment using a set number of words. If students wish to use all words, they may, but it is not mandatory. Homework is optional and I leave it to the discretion of the learner's parent(s). However, if it is completed, it will be checked and revised for the benefit of the student!
Assessment
There will be vocabulary assessments given once a month for regular learners (during the last class of the month). The vocabulary list will be provided ahead of time via announcements.

Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
Beginner - Intermediate Level
📖 In this ongoing class series, students will learn tips and tricks to expand their vocabulary! This class is designed for kindergarten and elementary students, but it can be modified to cater to older students as well (requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis). The optimal class size is generally five (5) learners, but it can accommodate more. This course will meet four (4) times in a week. Here is a tentative list of topics and themes per session:

• Week of June 10th, 2024: "Fiction"

• Week of June 17th, 2024: "Informational Text"

• Week of June 24th, 2024: "Our World"

• Week of July 1st, 2024: "Folktale"

📚 The purpose of these classes is to stimulate young minds with images, scenarios, and passages, to activate prior knowledge. By discussing images and short excerpts, we will learn how to retain challenging vocabulary words. Topics vary every week, but they can include the following and more: animals, nature, weather, technology, sports, culture, travel, etc. Students will also receive guided instructions on pronunciation, memorization, and application (adding vocabulary words in full-length responses). My teaching style is student-centric, so it will flow by empowering students to proactively contribute! :)

In summary, here is a roadmap parents and learners can except in each class:

1.) Topic(s) Discussion (warm-up)
2.) Brainstorming (high frequency words)
3.) Read Aloud
4.) Identification
5.) Application
6.) Homework Assignment
Learning Goals
Students will enhance their vocabulary retention capabilities with the following six (6) learning goals: sight-reading, pronunciation, mnemonics, synonym clusters, mind maps, and application
