Class Experience

In this course we will progress through basic first grade phonics and phonemic awareness objectives.  We will practice sight words, reading and writing all within one forty minute period.  We will utilize appropriate research based strategies to increase reading fluency and comprehension.  This course is best suited for students who know all of their letter sounds and who are able to blend C-V-C words.  Although it is aimed at first grade students it would be appropriate for advanced kindergarten students or second grade students who need extra support.  Weekly progression is as follows:

Week of May 29:
Sight words: said, now, our
Phonic focus: blends with bl, cl, fl, gl, pl
Writing goal: beginning and ending punctuation
Comprehension: setting, characters, main idea

Week of June 5:
Sight words: under, into
Phonics focus: blends with br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr
Writing goal: beginning and ending punctuation
Comprehension: setting, characters, main idea

Week of June 12:

Hi!  My name is Tiffany Evans and I am a certified teacher located in North Carolina.  I have taught kindergarten through fifth grade as well as pre-school and have my Master's Degree in Reading Education, which is my passion.    My peers describe me as patient and detail orientated. I value your time and strive to put forth every necessary effort to make my classes amazing for your students.  I plan engaging and interesting activities that are sure to keep their interests.  I am passionate about the classes that I teach and love having students come back and see me for additional classes at upper levels!
