This class is perfect for students who are ready to learn about blends/digraphs and some long vowel teams. We will also be learning many new sight words and how to write simple sentences. We will be exploring engaging texts as well.

Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
Phonemic Awareness- Distinguish long from short vowel sounds in spoken single-syllable words. Orally produce single syllable words by blending phonemes together including consonant blends. Blend and segment single syllable words into individual phonemes. Phonics- Know spelling sound correspondence for common digraphs. Decode one syllable words. Know final-e and common vowel teams. Break apart and decode two syllable words. Read words with inflectional endings. Read grade level sight words. Comprehension- Be able to discuss/ analyze and apply information from text that they read or listen to. Fluency- Read grade level text with accuracy and speed. Writing- Write simple sentences using correct spelling for phonics rules and sight words they have been taught.
I have been a K-2 teacher for over 20 years. My expertise is in reading intervention and I have worked in that area for the last 8 years. I am very passionate about helping children learn how to read and especially passionate about helping those students who are struggling and need an out of the box way to learn how to become successful readers! I take a very hands on multi-sensory approach to learning the basic foundational skills and above all we make it fun!!!!
No outside homework.
A white board and dry erase marker or paper and pencil to write with. Optional magnetic letters and magnetic board.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
