Beginner Level
*Hello! I have returned from a Hiatus and am taking students again! Please check out my new schedule openings! This class will cover all first grade reading and writing skills according to the grade one state standards. By the end of the course, the student will be expected to read their own writing and will be encouraged to read aloud. They will begin to write simple and complete sentences, and will understand when to use capital letters, commas, and periods. By the end of the course, your child will be reading more complicated sentences, such as, "Jane was very sad. She could not find her doll. She looked in her room. It was a terrible mess." with appropriate rate and expression, without needing to sound out known words. Because the class is one on one, I will spend as much or as little time as the student requires to master a skill. As an example, if the student begins already having mastered all first grade sight vocabulary, I will move the student to second grade reading within a short period of time. On the other hand, if the student has forgotten many kindergarten skills, I will begin working with her on mastering those skills before moving forward. Through informal assessments, monitoring and adjusting, and teaching to the specific needs of the student, they will be reading and writing at or above the first grade level by the end of the course.
Learning Goals
Students will master all grade one reading and writing skills.
