Pop! Figurative language can "pop" up in any text students read. Authors use these devices to make their writing more exciting and provide deeper meaning. Typically, students are also expected to use these devices in their own writing. This club is meant to be an introduction to the world of figurative language. We focus on the most popular devices including: simile, metaphor, personification, alliteration, sensory details, etc. Students start by reviewing the terms, definitions and examples then spend time looking at how a writer uses these ideas in a short story. Finally, students will see an example of a descriptive paragraph before writing their own. The instructor will send weekly progress reports on Fridays if work has been completed.
Learning Goals
Implement figurative language devices by writing a descriptive paragraph.
Define and provide an example of figurative language devices (simile, metaphor, personification, alliteration, etc.) by completing guided notes and figurative language chart
