Class Experience

This is a Conversational English - or Spanish - class where learners will have the opportunity to practice and improve upon their basic intermediate communication skills, and to do so in a way that embraces nature and its relaxing and inspiring qualities. Class will start with a kid-friendly curiosity talk, such as the ones featured on the National Park Service website or National Geographic for Kids, and then provide a supportive space for the children to practice their English -or Spanish - while taking a contemplative virtual expedition to the majestic Yellowstone National Park. Learner may experience being close to the core of our wonderful planet Earth by looking deep into geysers, observe the astonishing geyser basins, admire the many waterfalls, rock formations, as well as appreciate the awe inspiring wildlife, including thousands of bisons who roam free in the first, and most magnificent national park of the USA. Conversation style is relaxed and kind and inclusive. Teacher will coach Learners' growing linguistic skills, such as new words and idioms. Class size is 1:1 to allow for plenty of interaction and ensuring nothing is 'lost in translation'. Yellowstone is one of the most fascinating places on Earth, a unique, large and diverse park, so this class may be repeated as conversation topics expand covering its many fascinating highlights. Please note a basic intermediate conversational level of English - or Spanish - is needed as a starting base from which to build further fluidity.
Learning Goals
Learners will: Improve on their existing English or Spanish skills; be exposed to different accents leading to a greater understanding of both, native and foreign English or Spanish speakers; expand the vocabulary including idioms; develop the ability to think in English or Spanish directly; expand cultural enrichment, appreciation for the Earth and its astounding wilderness, as well as multiculturalism. The gradual accomplishment of these goals will lead to a general improvement of Learner's English or Spanish level, comfort/fluency in the language, an easier path to learning the next foreign language, and a sense of self-gratification and joy.

Teacher's background includes Linguistics, Psychology/Yoga and Humanities; she values intergenerational learning, teaches for Outschool children ages 3-18, teaches private students of all ages including seniors, and is a College Professor. She was raised in the diplomatic service living and attending schools in Asia, America (both Latin and North America) and Europe, learning multiculturalism, attending schools and studying in 3 languages, while learning a 4th. This has made her sensitive to the journey involved in learning & mastering a new language, from words to idioms, and so much more, including language psychology; she easily catches the "lost in translation" moments, making her a great conversation teacher. She understands learning happens best when the student is relaxed and in an optimistic disposition, so her classes are mindful, and she keeps them light & fun for children, as well as seriously enriching. In her own words: "There is a time for lightness and a time for focused/dedicated learning, and when we can manage both with a sense of harmony, we have the best of two worlds."
