Is your child curious about the science and the world we live in? This class will introduce them to the basic building blocks of everything around them, the ATOM! What better way to learn about science than using candy!! Your student will learn what atoms are made of and how to build their own basic atoms out of candy. We will build the first 8 elements during the class. This class is designed for younger learners as a basic and fun introduction to atoms. This class will be presented at the beginner level with no prior knowledge needed. Students will need to bring the printout, a bag of either Skittles or M&Ms, and a hunger for knowledge and candy!
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the 3 parts of an atom: protons, neutrons and electrons. They will also learn how to construct basic atoms from information on the periodic table.
Other Details
Supply List
Students will need 2 things for this class: 1. Print out the Edible Atom printable provided 2. A bag of Skittles or M&Ms. Both work fine, just whichever the student prefers.

Teacher expertise and credentials
3 Degrees
Doctoral Degree in Engineering (General) from North Carolina State University
Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from United States Military Academy
I believe young kids are curious about the world around them and how things work. I know that younger kids can understand atoms if presented in a fun and engaging way. I have not found anything more fun or engaging than candy!
