This 15-week course is designed to cover half of a typical high school level physics curriculum. However, this does not mean that interested younger learners should not take this class. Anyone interested in learning about physics in an engaging way at their own pace should sign up for this class. This course is designed to build a strong foundation in the concepts, rather than get bogged down in difficult math problems. So, younger students without a strong math background will do fine in this course! Each block of instruction is described in the syllabus. The course also includes hands-on or virtual lab experiments to compliment the material being learned in the class. Each lesson includes approximately an hour of video lecture and includes fill-in-the-blank note pages. This is to help the students learn how to take notes in a science class. I have also found over my years of teaching that if students write things down they tend to retain the material better. There is no pre-requisite for Algebra 1 or any higher math. Students need to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide as well as be familiar with exponents and square roots. Calculators are encouraged for this course, but no fancy calculators are required. In fact, the instructor works out all of the problems in the videos using his iPhone calculator. This is a flexible schedule course, meaning that there are no live meetings. Each week new videos, notes pages, and practice problems will be posted to the classroom. The completed practice problems will be uploaded to the classroom (either scanned or a picture taken) for feedback from the teacher. There will be a discussion thread where students can ask for help from the class and the teacher. Each week an experiment will be posted that follows the lesson material.

The labs used in this course to supplement the material are all safe and use things found in a traditional kitchen. No special laboratory equipment or chemicals are needed. Everything can be found around your house or in a grocery store. No harmful substances will be used. At times, the use of the stove to heat water is required, but students will be advised to seek parental supervision when performing any experiments that require use of the stove.
Supply List
Notes pages for each lesson and practice problems will be provided by the teacher.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
3 Degrees
Doctoral Degree in Engineering (General) from North Carolina State University
Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from United States Military Academy
I have taught chemistry and chemical engineering at the college level, and have a PhD in nuclear engineering. I have been teaching all disciplines of science to home school elementary, middle and high school students for 12 years. I know how to present science in a fun way to boost students interest in the subject.
