Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 9
In this 4 week Diamond Club Learning Pod class we will begin to explore concepts in chemistry by learning about the periodic table of elements and how the elements make up everything!

Over this course we will cover: 
Week 1:  The smallest particle of matter:  the atom
Learners will need 3 different small objects.  I will be using pony beads that are different colors.  You can use Skittles or M & M candy too!

Week 2:  How to read the periodic table of elements, color code the periodic table and periodic table of elements Bingo
Learners will need colored pencils and something to use as markers for Bingo

Week 3:  Chemical Reactions & Lab
Materials:  2-3 pieces of Zotz Fizzy Candy & 1 packaging of Pop Rocks Candy (Both can be purchased on Amazon),  2 small cups/bowls with water, object to smash Zotz candy 

Week 4:  Acids & Bases/Testing Acids & Bases
Learners will need the following:
1.  Five substances to test (vinegar, window cleaner, laundry detergent, sprite, baking soda dissolved in water) If you do not have all of theses substances, feel free to substitute)

Learning Goals
Learners will become familiar with atoms and their relationship with he periodic table of elements.  The elements on the periodic table make up everything and we will dive into how these elements can combine chemically to make new substances.
