Assessments will be done after each Barton Level, to ensure mastery of the level just completed.
Certificate of Completion
Certificates are issued after a student completes each level of the Barton Program.

US Grade Kindergarten - 3

Give your child a strong start in reading! Designed for ages 6–8, this 25-minute class uses the Barton program, built on the principles of the Orton-Gillingham approach, to provide personalized, engaging instruction for young learners."

What They’ll Learn:
Foundational skills like phonemic awareness, letter-sound associations, and basic decoding.
Structured, multisensory strategies tailored to their level to make reading fun and effective.
Confidence-building tools to foster a love of reading through small, achievable steps.

Class Structure:
Warm-Up: Quick, interactive activity to engage and focus young learners.
Main Lesson: Instruction using the Barton Reading and Spelling Program, adapted to meet your child’s specific needs.
Cool-Down: Fun review or game to celebrate progress and wrap up the session.

Why This Class?
This class follows the Barton Reading and Spelling Program, a research-based, structured literacy method developed from the respected Orton-Gillingham approach. Each child begins at their assessed level, ensuring personalized instruction and progress.

To ensure retention and mastery, this class requires a minimum commitment of 3 sessions per week. Regular practice is essential to help your child build strong reading skills and achieve long-term success.

Other Details

Learning Needs
This class is specifically designed for students with dyslexia. We will be using the Barton Curriculum, an Orton Gillingham program, which will provide intense targeted instruction for dyslexic readers.
Parental Guidance
Please double-check which class time you would like with me before enrolling. My schedule will be flexible for the summer.
Pre-Requisites
Students will need to pass a pretest to see if they qualify for the program. This will test for memory and the ability to manipulate sounds. Students need to already know their letters and sounds.
Supply List
A computer that will allow us to utilize the remote control feature through Zoom is required. All students will be required to manipulate the Barton sound/letter tiles during class. 
All students must have a headset for class. They will need to be able to listen closely to sounds given to them without background noise or distractions.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
