Do you love dragons? Want to practice your creature creation and drawing skills? Enjoy being creative and inventing new characters? Let's draw together! Every week, we'll invent an entirely NEW type of dragon, based on your class suggestions. Want to make a dragon made entirely of fire? One that grows like a plant? Or has fur like a zebra? We'll practice making designs like this-- combining the classic dragon form with characteristics of our favorite animals, plants, elements, and...
Students will practice: -- Character design -- Creating composite images -- Drawing from observation -- Shading, creating texture, and creating backgrounds (as time allows) -- Some weeks may include optional additional media practice such as ink, watercolor, or colored pencil (as desired by student)
I have taught drawing for many years, and in my observation the most effective way to teach good drawing skills is to demonstrate them. Drawing together with my students is a great way to illustrate drawing techniques while helping them to build the critical thinking and observational skills they need to continue working on their own. My goal is to build my students' skills and confidence as young artists!
Students who work more slowly may wish to take extra time after class to finish their drawings.
The only required materials are: -- Pencil -- Eraser -- Drawing paper or sketch book If students wish to add additional media such as ink, colored pencil, watercolors, etc-- they are encouraged to do so!
55 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
We'll use reference images sourced from websites that provide copyright-free images, such as Unsplash.com, Pexels.com, and Pixabay.com; illustrations from before 1925 which are in the public domain.
