Did you know that the poison dart frog has enough poison to kill 20,000 mice? Also, it's only about an inch in size! Let's learn how to draw interesting animals each week! In this laidback, animal drawing class, learners will learn foundational drawing skills that can be applied to any drawing - from cartoon to realistic. For these classes, we will focus on drawing realistic animals (real animals, fantasy, extinct) with pencil! Learners are also welcome to try colored pencil, but I will always be using pencils. In every class, students will learn and/or practice applying key steps to the animal drawing of the week. All levels are welcome. - Shapes Learners will identify the big overall shape first and then identify and draw the smaller, important shapes. - Anatomy Learners will observe light anatomy to give their drawing more structure and believability. - Light and Shadow Learners will pinpoint the light and shadow. - Shading/Texture (time dependent on difficulty of animal) Learners will use what they learned about light and shadow to shade their animal and give texture depending on each animal. SCHEDULE Animals may change a week before each class as learners take turns choosing and may change their minds. MONDAYS at 7pm Eastern TUESDAYS at 5:30pm Eastern THURSDAYS at 4:15pm Eastern THURSDAYS at 5:15pm Eastern FRIDAYS at 5:40pm Eastern SATURDAYS at 12pm Eastern Art doesn’t need to be a mystery, and my goal on Outschool is to give learners the tools to be able to figure out how to draw what they want independently. This class will be laidback and will have plenty of time for curious questions! Individualized, constructive critiques and praise will be given throughout the class.
Learning Goals
Learners will gain more appreciation towards animals from around the world.Learners will also learn about texture, light and shadow, important shapes, and some anatomy.

Learners can choose what to use. I will be using pencil and white paper. Be sure to bring: Paper (any color and size) Eraser Sharpener Pencils

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

While I usually draw realistically, I also enjoy using this approach to draw in different styles.
