Beginner Level
Have you ever wondered how some people can just draw "anything" they want? It's not because they're born knowing how! This class covers some of the most helpful techniques that artists use to draw just about anything! In this class, we'll use reference photos of animals for most of our practice sketches, but the techniques we'll learn are applicable to just about any subject. If you would like to be able to draw realistically, this is a good place to start! Our lessons introduce: 1. Gesture drawing & simplification 2. Negative space 3. Shading & texture 4. Linear perspective Students follow along with me as I sketch, in video demonstrations of each technique. Each lesson will introduce a fundamental drawing skill that helps us to draw *anything* from observation. I'll also explain how each technique works, so you can apply it later to other subjects! Lessons run between 60-90 minutes total, broken into several shorter videos (15-25 minutes each). Students who turn in sketches for each lesson will be provided with a certificate of completion at the end of the course! ********************************** Interested in more classes from Ms. Kristy? Learning Goals
Students will learn techniques that will help them draw more accurately, from observation. These techniques include: gesture drawing, contour line drawing, negative space, blocking in shadows, and perspective. This is an INTRODUCTORY course-- true mastery of these techniques will require much practice, but this is a great place to start!
Syllabus
4 Lessons
over 4 WeeksLesson 1:
Gesture Drawing & Simplification
How to begin a drawing using "sketchy" lines & simplified shapes. Sketch everything the right shape, size, and placement.
Lesson 2:

In all my years of classroom teaching, the one skill that seemed to make the most difference in whether students reached their fullest potential in art class was this: did they feel comfortable drawing their ideas? For this introductory course, I've honed in on a few essential drawing techniques that have helped my students build their skills and confidence, and catapult their creativity to the next level.
