This writing class is designed to give writers more specific direction as they continue to improve their skills. Writing style progresses and comes to life through using various figures of speech and other writing elements. We will work on being more descriptive and detail-oriented in our written work as we learn about and use these valuable writing topics and resources. After we discuss the meaning of the weekly writing topic and brainstorm examples, we will discuss how we can incorporate these lessons into our writing. Students will realize the importance that these literary elements can have in their writing. Using various writing elements can enhance or describe their stories, improve the quality of writing, and also make a difference in how students develop their skills as an author. Students should come prepared with a notebook or paper on which to take notes and write stories. You are welcome to join the class at any time because each class is independent of each other. If you want all of the classes, you can start in January or you could catch the end of the fall session now and then get the beginning classes in the next session. They will select the topic they would like to write about and begin their writing adventures. Near the end of class, learners will have the opportunity to share their stories and build their public speaking skills. No one will be required to share, but may choose to do so if they would like feedback from myself or fellow learners. Students may choose to share their stories verbally in class, by posting them in the classroom for other students to read, or by sending them to me privately. PLEASE NOTE: I teach various creative writing classes, however, the writing prompts and material are always unique and will not be used across any of my other classes. If students would like to take my other classes, they will be learning different techniques and material in each class. I do not tolerate bullying or teasing in my class. I want everyone to feel safe and happy. I love teaching and want students to experience friendship with one another and enjoy being together.
Learning Goals
Learners will:
• Develop and enhance their creative writing skills.
• Write stories and build their personal story notebooks.
• Share their stories and practice their public speaking skills if they choose to do so.
