Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 4
NOTE: All of my classes have unique lessons - none of the material is repeated, so you may sign up for any of my classes without worrying about duplication. Teaching material and vocabulary words are only used again every 2 years to assure learners that they will always be taught something new. If you feel that this class is too advanced, or not quite advanced enough for your child, I have classes to fit those needs. Please check out the other classes in my profile if you feel that a change would benefit them. You are also welcome to contact me at any time with questions. :)

This is a fun ongoing class to encourage creative writing and to learn new vocabulary words. Writing comes to life when there are fun, new vocabulary words to use, and writing prompts to explore. I will focus on different techniques of writing as we continue through this ongoing class, and will encourage writing using setting, characters, plot development, sequencing, and conclusion.

Since this is an ongoing class, students may join the class without feeling behind in their learning. We love to have learners become part of the class at any time.

Class schedule:
Each week students will be taught 3 new vocabulary words. We will discuss the definitions of each word, and various meanings if applicable. We will talk about the part of speech, definition, spelling, and pronunciation of each new word. We will use these new words in sentences to show understanding of the new words and I will encourage them to use the new words at home throughout the week.

Students should come prepared with a notebook or paper on which to write their new vocabulary words and definitions, as well as their stories.

Students will be given a choice of 2-3 different writing prompts, but may choose to use their own ideas instead if they prefer. They will select the topic that they would like to write about and begin their writing adventures. As a class, we can offer ideas or encouragement when a learner is stumped on a story line or word choice, and asks for help.

Near the end of class, learners will have the opportunity to share their stories and build their public speaking skills, helping students become more confident in this area. No one will be required to share, but may choose to do so if they would like encouragement, advice, or applause.

PLEASE NOTE:
I have found that many students like to contribute to their own learning. If a student would like to submit a new vocabulary word or a story prompt, I encourage this! They can do this by sending me a private message. It can be fun for students to take part in their learning.

I do not tolerate bullying or teasing in my class. I want everyone to feel safe and happy in my class. I love teaching and want students to feel friendship with one another and enjoy being together.
