Class Experience

US Grade 6
Come join me for 6th Grade Math! You are welcome to join for the entire course or just for specific topics.

This is an ongoing class designed to cover a full year of 6th Grade Math. Class will be held 2 days each week. Ongoing classes are helpful because students are welcome to join and stay throughout the course, or come and go week to week if they need help with a specific concept or simply want more practice. If learners enroll at the beginning and stay throughout the course, they will receive the full year of 6th Grade math instruction. All are welcome! If a flex class format works best, please contact me for a link.

BONUS TUTORING TIME: I truly want my students to feel successful in math. I know it can be frustrating to feel "lost" and not be able to get the help they need. Therefore, I am offering free additional help for those who want to take advantage of it. I will be in the classroom 10-15 minutes before class begins to answer any questions from previous homework or concepts. I will also stay in the classroom for an extra 10-15 minutes after class ends to be available for my students. Learners may have specific questions or math problems they would like to address, or they might just choose to stay in class and work on homework. Whatever the case, I will be there for anyone who wants to take advantage of this extra math time.

Although students may never say they love math, I'd like to help them to not hate it. :) My goal is to help them feel comfortable with the concepts and show their understanding with what they are learning. When students are happy, engaged, and feel comfortable in the class, they are more apt to learn. Sometimes a student just needs a different approach or some extra help in order to excel and flourish in a given area.

I believe that both individual and group discussion/learning is important - so as I model the new concept, we will discuss the lesson while students ask/answer questions. Students will also work on some math problems independently in class to help them feel comfortable doing these tasks while I am still there to give assistance or answer questions as needed. Occasionally, I may divide the students into breakout rooms (in small group rooms or in individual rooms) so they can either work together, work quietly on their own, or receive individual help from me.

On Mondays, I will send weekly guided notes with practice problems as well as pages for homework for the current week. Printing these pages or having a way to view them during class is highly recommended for note-taking and practice. The homework is designed to help them practice and reinforce what they are learning. If a printer is not available, students may use lined paper to do their work.

Class Structure:
5 Minutes: Review
20-25 Minutes: Instruction
15-20 Minutes: Student Practice, Ask/Answer Questions,

Homework:
For those who would like the option of turning in homework, I will correct homework for students who submit these assignments within one week from the date they were assigned.

Quizzes and tests are available for each unit and will be sent to individual students upon request.

Letter grades/percentages can be given for students if requested. Homework assignments must be turned in for a letter grade to be given. Quizzes and tests are still optional, but can be calculated into the grade if requested.

Students should come prepared to class each day with the printed notes or notebook/lined paper, a pencil (with a good eraser), and a calculator. Students will also need to have graph paper available, which will be used throughout the year in different units or lessons. Homework assignments have graphs printed on them, but sometimes it is helpful to have additional graph paper.

If students are not able to attend class, the video recordings will be made available for them to watch.
