In this one-time class, students will use building bricks, blocks, or other materials of their choice to free-build their very own structures while chatting with new friends! We will begin the class with a quick hello song to greet each learner by name, then give each person a chance to share their materials and building plans for the day. We will take some time to work on our structures while discussing any successes, challenges, or new ideas that arise along the way. When we are finished building, we will showcase our work for our new friends and quickly check in to share our feelings about the day's session before we say goodbye.
I value an emergent teaching style, in which I respond to student interests and preferences as much as possible during the course of each session. As such, the order and content of each activity may be modified to ensure that each young learner is as developmentally supported and intrinsically motivated as possible.Learning Goals
-Students will engage in early engineering, problem solving, and creative arts concepts as they work with the building materials of their choice.
-Students will practice their conversational skills in a show and tell format.

I have ten years of teaching experience at the early childhood level in a wide variety of racially, ethnically, linguistically, and neurologically diverse settings--lab, private, public, home-based, non-profit, co-op, and virtual--throughout the Greater Boston area.
As co-founder of the National SEED Project Emily Style so adeptly summarized in her 1988 essay "Curriculum as Window and Mirror", curriculum should function "both as window and as mirror, in order to reflect and reveal most accurately both a multicultural world and the student herself or himself". This means that it is intrinsically important for ALL educators--including those who may not be members of a marginalized group themselves--to expose every student, regardless of their personal identity markers, to a multiplicity of cultures and ways of being in the world.
