Class Experience

In this class, students will learn letter-sound correspondence, learn the parts of a book, sight words, and read simple sentences using sight words. Students will spend one week (2 classes) learning the sounds letters make. We will go through them with flash cards and visuals with words, students will spend 2 weeks (4 classes) learning and reviewing word families while reviewing the sounds letters make. We will use games and flash cards with visuals to learn word families. We will then spend 1 week learning the parts of a book and concepts of print (where we start reading, which direction we read, letters, words, punctuation, etc.). Students will use books that they have at home to follow along with my book. Students will then spend 1 week learning to read short simple sentences with sight words they have learned in the class.

Prerequisite: Students need to know their alphabet and be able to sight recognize letters with ease. In order to meet all the material mentioned, this is VERY important!

Teacher expertise and credentials
HI! My name is Madison Tater. I graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a certification in ESL and EC-6th grade. I am currently in school for my Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus in English. I have taught 2nd and 5th grade English, Social Studies, and Science. I have tutored students in kindergarten through 12th grade. When I am not teaching, I love hanging out with my fiancé, playing with our new kitty, reading, watching movies, and learning new languages.
I love making learning interactive. I believe that students should have a part in their learning. I believe in project learning rather than worksheets and direct teaching.
If you want a graded assignment for any class, please message me and let me know. If you are a parent who needs a specific time slot and a class does not work with your schedule, please let me know and we can create a customized class for your child. If you have any questions, please let me know!
