Class Experience
During this class, we will focus on one vowel per class. I will introduce students to the concept of a closed syllable. Students encounter these words in controlled readers (like BOB books and other decodable texts). In this class students will learn the components of a closed syllable, how to identify one, and how to read one. The class will begin with a virtual greetings and phonics warm up to review key sounds. Students will review the concepts of vowels, consonants, and syllables. I will...
Students will be able to identify vowels within a word. Students will be able to identify final consonants. Students will be able to identify closed syllables. Students will be able to sound out closed syllable words. Students will be able to identify kindergarten level sight words.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher will observe that the student can accurately decode 3 letter closed syllable words with short vowels at least 80% of the time.
25 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
