Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Pre-Kindergarten
This class solidifies letter sounds, beginning sight words, and reading in a small-group format perfect for young learners who need a caring and engaging teacher. I'll help them learn to read for the first time in a fun and engaging way using phonics, multi-sensory approaches, and games. Your child can join this ongoing course at any time; however, please note that the supply on the learner supply list below is essential for their ability to participate.

During each class, I will provide direct phonics and multi-sensory reading instruction. Students will develop a deeper understanding of letter sounds, consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words, beginning sight words, and reading skills. Each live class is designed to be incredibly engaging and interactive for each student, providing many opportunities for different senses and kinesthetic body movements to ensure different areas of your child's brain is engaged in the learning process. This helps strengthen retention, long-term memory and sustains children's interest throughout class. High repetition and positive feedback is incorporated to each class meeting to help build student confidence and proficiency of the material. I will provide instruction utilizing pre-kindergarten and kindergarten sight words. Students will be supported and challenged by me throughout each class based on their individual needs. Although each student's needs are different, families should notice improvements in your child's reading abilities after just a few classes. Students that enroll should be able to correctly identify the name of at least 16 lowercase letters of the alphabet, but no previous CVC or sight word reading experience is necessary.

Each session of my beginning reading class will be structured based on a list of different beginning pre-kindergarten and kindergarten sight words (CVC words plus short words like I, me, the). Each student will have repeated directed instruction opportunities to:
1. Identify letter sounds
2. Blend sounds
3. Read words
4. Segment words
5. Implement kinesthetic body movements
6. Read sight words in short sentences

The last few minutes of class (approximately 8 minutes) will be an interactive review game that students love. They will play together with their friends at their own pace on a touch screen device. For this, students should bring a separate device with an internet browser like a smartphone, iPad, or touch screen laptop to play on. Your student will need parent support the last 8 minutes of class navigating to the website and typing the game code in, but they will be able to play the game independently once there. I will provide the game code visually on my screen for parents when it’s time to play. More details are provided on the classroom page upon enrollment in the course.

Because this is an ongoing subscription class, your payment will be charged each Sunday of the week a class is scheduled. If your child will be unable to attend all classes in a week, simply unsubscribe from the class prior to Sunday and you won't be charged for that week; however, it isn't possible for me to hold your seat in the class when you unsubscribe if it were to fill up with another learner.
