Class Experience

If your child has a strong grasp of most letter sounds and names or has started to blend words to read, then this will be a great fit to build skills and confidence on their reading journey.
Each class includes:
*A song to introduce the week’s word family
*Many colorful slides to keep the class engaged
*A story, with pictures, they may listen to to search for words from our family
*Time to build, blend and read words from the family
*A chance to practice writing and filling-in letters to make our words (Optional worksheets are provided, or they may “air write”, write on
a white board or on their own paper)
*Discriminating between words both in and out of our family with “Rhyme Time”
*Playing a game to review and wrap-up

Word Families we study include: at, ab, ad, ed, et, ell, it, im, og, ob, ut, ub (and many more!)
**Your child may join in at any time, as we will be working on a new word family each week until we have completed them all and will then begin again with "at".**
Learning Goals
Students will:
*learn to blend sounds together to read short vowel words
*use auditory and visual discrimination to identify our word family words

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in English from Hanover College
For 23 years I was a 3-6 Montessori teacher and I was able to guide children from sound acquisition through Word Building and writing, and beyond. I love to integrate song, games and a bit of silliness into my classes to make learning fun. I let the children know that "mistakes are how you learn" and that they should never be afraid to try!
