In this beginner music class, learners are introduced to the fundamentals of music. We will begin class with a social circle where our learners will be invited to share with their new friends and actively participate in our opening ‘what is music’ discussion. Once the definition of music has been explored, we will jump into the rhythm portion of our class. Movement games and call-and-answer exercises will guide our learners through a wide range of introductory rhythm patterns where whole, quarter, and eighth notes will be explored and introduced. Next, the melody portion of class will encourage our learners to examine Do-Re-Mi. Through call and answer exercises students will be guided to repeat after the teacher sings. We will put melody and rhythm together exploring various musical connections and patterns. Finally, our learners will be encouraged to share a musical instrument of their choice and play it for their new friends. Class will conclude with a high energy dance and groove as we apply all of our new discoveries to a song of choice. No experience is required but this is a fast paced learning environment. The goal for this class is to introduce various musical elements to our youngest learners while allowing them to have fun in learning. *Please note: A familiarity with the microphone button (mute + unmute) will be beneficial for this class as I allow our leaners opportunities to share, speak, and play their instruments solo during interactive moments throughout class. However, learners will be kept on mute during music and explanations to eliminate the inevitable delay, echo, and feedback in everyones speakers.
Learning Goals
My goal for all beginner music classes is to encourage self-confidence in an inviting and high-energy space. Let’s have fun while learning the fundamentals of music. Learners will have a better understanding of the term ‘music’, and have an introduction to beginner rhythm and melody foundations.
