Class Experience

CLASS STRUCTURE:
In this 4-week ballet class we will be working with a flexible schedule, meaning there will be no-live meetings and all material can be reviewed at your own time. In the beginning of the course each learner will be asked to introduce themselves to the group, share a little bit about their previous dance training, as well as goals they are hoping to accomplish during this course. This course is listed monthly and will always start on the first calendar day of the month and end on the last day of each month. It will always include 4 pre-recorded Ballet Classes released always on the 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd of the month, regardless of what day of the week it is. You are then welcome to take them and complete them at any time. The class content will be available to you, for the full month to do so.

The class includes four full pre-recorded ballet classes going through barre and center exercises and focusing on a different concept every time. All classes are recorded in a dance studio with clear movement demonstration, detailed instruction and professional sound and lighting quality. The students will be asked to complete the ballet class on their own time and submit a short written response in the classroom, answering a few questions based on their experience. The written responses will be around 300-400 words approximately and will initiate conversation between learners. Based on their responses all enrolled learners will be sharing tips, discoveries and any other artistic input they encountered each week. In addition, they will be encouraged to submit a recording of them completing each dance class, which I will be reviewing and providing personalized written feedback to each individual learner. The feedback provided will be focusing on physical, artistic and musical corrections, as well as areas I feel like each student could improve on. The video submissions will be optional.

In addition, each class week I will be posting an "artist talk topic"in the classroom that will include topics such as: sharing dance artists that we admire, performances we've watched that made an impact, personal experiences with dance worth sharing, as well as book, film and other dance media recommendations for anyone interested.

Lastly, during the last week of each session, there will be a recapping conversation during which each learner will share their main takeaways from the course, things that stood out and etc. I will also be available to discuss their progress, answer any questions that might have come up during the four weeks and offer any additional advice on ways they can continue their training.

MATERIAL AND CONCEPTS COVERED:
In these intermediate ballet classes will be working on movement detail, strength and coordination through exercises that utilize the barre. We will work on musicality, lower leg and core strength, clarity and an overall understanding of the dance discipline through the ballet lens. After we explore multiple exercises we will move away from the barre and go through a few center exercises including adagio, pirouettes and small jumps. After each class ends, I will encourage the learners to take some time to cool down the body and stretch in order to prevent future injuries.

EXPERIENCE:
This class is for students who have a few months/years of ballet experience. I also offer Beginner and Advanced level ballet classes so this class is designed for students who don't necessarily fall under either of those two categories. If you are not sure if this class is right for your level or age do not hesitate to reach out and I will make sure we find the best fit that will serve your learner's individual needs.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Just a few logistics before we get started: Find a room with some space to move and not too slippery flooring (wood usually works best or if you have a marley panel even better). Make sure you wear comfortable clothing and either ballet shoes or socks. After the class ends, the student might want to take a few minutes to stretch (I will provide the learners different stretching options) and cool down in order to prevent future injuries. Other than that you are all set and ready to get moving!
Supply List
-Soft ballet shoes if accessible, otherwise socks can work
-Comfortable clothing
-Water bottle, if desirable
-Ballet Barre (if you don't have a barre you can use a wall/ chair/ any piece of furniture around waist-height, accessible in your home)
