This class is designed to stimulate the child's interest in learning phonics and reading. Each week the child will be taught a letter sound with a character and song. These sounds will build until the student will be taught how to blend sounds to read. Week of Sept. 10, 2023 (Lesson 1) the student will be taught the short "a" sound (Annie the Ant - Annie the Ant, she ran so fast, she lost her apple, as she went past.) with a song and an animal with actions. They will practice short "a" sound with the blend ladder chart. Week of Sep. 17, 2023 (Lesson 2) the student will be taught the consonant "b" sound (Bob the Bat bit the big bug and put his banana in his backpack.) and he will blend the "b" and short "a" sounds with the blend ladder chart Week of Sept. 24, 2023 (Lesson 3) the student will be taught the short "e" sound (Ellie the Elephant - Ellie the Elephant fed her red hen, and then she sent her hen to her pen.) with a song and an animal with actions; he will blend "b" and short "a" and "e" blend ladder chart Week of Oct. 1, 2023 (Lesson 4 )the student will be taught the consonant soft "c" sound (Cindy the Centipede circled her celery and then she danced on her cycle); the student will blend soft "c" and "b" and short "a" and "e" blend ladder chart Week of Oct. 8, 2023 (Lesson 5) the student will be taught the short "i" vowel sound (Iggy the Iguana - Iggy the Iguana hid his big pig, and then he fixed a dish for his fish.) with a song and an animal with actions and blend with "b" and soft "c" and short "a", "e", and "i" with the blend ladder chart Week of Oct. 15, 2023 (Lesson 6) the student will be taught the consonant hard "c" sound (Connie the Cat cut the cake and then she ate the cake in her car.) and blend it with "b" and soft "c" and short "a", "e", and "i"; then blend to make words bab, bac, cab, Week of Oct. 22, 2023 (Lesson 7) the student will be taught the short "o" vowel sound (Ollie the Ostrich - Ollie the Ostrich lost his frog, but then he found his frog on a log.) with a song and an animal with actions. I have taught in the classroom and homeschooled for over 30 years. I graduated from a 4-year liberal arts program with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Minor in History. I am passionate about English, reading, and math in my teaching. I want to open the worlds of English, reading, and math to children and adults.
I have taught both in the classroom and in homeschool, teaching from K2 through 12th grade, plus 3 1/2 years at a small Bible college over their education program. I am very dedicated to the skill of reading. I believe that it is the one area that everyone needs to be successful at because if you can read, you can complete math, science, history, spelling, etc. If you cannot read, it affects every aspect of your life. I am a firm believer in the 4 R's of education: reading, writing, arithmetic, and research. The complete classroom elements must be taught to be well-rounded academically, mentally, spiritually, and physically.
My teaching experience is as follows: Advanced K5; 1st through 6th-grade phonics, reading, and math program; 5th grade all subjects; 7th through 8th-grade math, Algebra I and II, Consumer Math, Geometry, Speech, Typing, Shorthand, and Spanish I; 7th - 12th grade English and Speech; Remedial College English, College English 101 & 102, History of Civilization 101 and 102, American History 101 and 102, and American Government 101 and 102. In addition, I taught for 3 1/2 years at the college level for a small college as the director of their education department.
I have already taught a remedial Algebra I class, and I am presently teaching several sections of Remedial Math 102: Mastering the Fundamental Concepts.
I started my teaching with Outschool by teaching reading and math to K4-3rd grade.
