This course offers comprehensive instruction on effectively utilizing Adobe Illustrator for vector graphic creation.

Beginner Level
We cover the difference between vector and raster images and when each is appropriate. We cover all basic tools as well as how to setup files from start to print so that students can create their own designs in the future. My classes are fun and engaging. I respond quickly to student queries with video responses that help them visualize what they're trying to figure out.

Week 1Lesson 1Intro to Vector DesignUnderstanding the fundamentals of vector graphics. Exploring merge & blend tools for shape manipulation. Transforming shapes: scaling, skewing, rotating, etc. Creating a 200x200 icon or phone screen background using artboards. Learning file sharing and collaboration through Adobe Cloud.Lesson 2Pen & Drawing ToolsExploring paintbrush, pen, and pencil tools. Modifying color and stroke properties. Adding creative brushstrokes. Utilizing pen and curve tool exercises to create a monster creature.Lesson 3Precision In DesignMastering the curvature tool for precise designs. Using pathfinder functions for shape combination. Applying blend tool for smooth transitions. Creating a kawaii character showcasing acquired skills.Lesson 4Text & TypographyUnderstanding typography principles. Adding meaningful text to designs. Mastery in alignment and spacing for visual balance. Applying inner/outer glow effects and text warping techniques. Creating text-based designs: logos, banners, social media graphics.Lesson 5Advanced Technique & DevelopmentProficiency in adding external images to Illustrator projects. Creating and using clipping masks effectively. Generating patterns within designs. Applying filters and creative effects for enhancement. Homework Offered
Students will create one project per class session.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Assessments are in the form of feedback on students creations. I provide tips to improve as well as encouragement for creativity and style.Grades Offered
Students will receive a certificate of completion.
Basic Computer Skills
Students will need a 1 week trial of Adobe Illustrator. Please be sure to complete the lessons in 1 week if you are using a trial. If you opt to subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud, be sure to get student pricing for 19.99/mo. If you have a subscription, you can take up to 3 weeks to complete your course. You need a computer based version of Illustrator, the iPad app is not sufficient.
