Explore the exciting world of graphic design with our comprehensive High School Graphic Design Class, designed to help students develop their creative skills. Through engaging and hands-on activities, students will delve into the foundational elements that form the backbone of the design process. Unit 1: Introduction to Graphic Design In this introductory unit, students will explore what graphic design is all about and the various roles designers play in the industry. They will get a preview of what’s to come in the subsequent units by learning and practicing the creation of thumbnail sketches, rough sketches, and comprehensive design—essential building blocks of the design process. Unit 2: Fundamentals of Two-Dimensional Design Students will delve into the basics of two-dimensional design, which form the foundation of art, graphic design, and visual communication. This unit emphasizes the power of simple yet intentional visual elements such as points, lines, planes, gestalt principles, and color to communicate and create meaning. Unit 3: The Design Process This unit introduces students to a practical five-step design process that designers use to solve visual problems. Students will learn to identify each step in the design process, understand its importance, and implement these steps in their projects. By practicing this process, students will develop problem-solving skills crucial for any designer. Unit 4: The Power of Typography Typography is more than just selecting fonts; it’s a powerful tool for communication. In this unit, students will gain a brief but essential understanding of the history of the alphabet and how typography evolved. They will learn to use typography not only to create artful designs but also to organize and communicate ideas effectively. Students will understand how to make text more readable and how to structure content for better comprehension and ease of use. Certification and Grading: Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a certificate of completion along with a pass/fail grade. Join us in this exciting virtual class where creativity meets technique, and theory meets practice.
