2 live meetings
1 hrs 30 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1-2 hours per week. There will be a worksheet for most classes that correspond with material learned. We also have textbook readings. A student should expect to spend about an hour for each class on homework (two hours total a week).Assessment
Quizzes and two tests for the course. Quizzes are online and can be taken an unlimited amount of times (there are a couple exceptions throughout the semester where a quiz cannot be taken online such as when a diagram is required to be drawn.)Grading
Parents can request their student's grade at any point in the course. Quizzes are offered throughout the course and students have unlimited attempts. The two exams are on paper and will be turned in to be graded.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 9
This is a full year middle school Physical Science course that is "accelerated" to 15 weeks. We will meet twice a week and cover an entire year of Physical Science material at the middle school level. Due to the accelerated nature of the course it does move quicker than a non accelerated course. For example, there would be two worksheets assigned every week opposed to one. Homework is assigned throughout the year for students to practice the material they are learning in class. These are worksheets and practice problems that are graded on completion. Quizzes are given throughout the course for students to check their understanding. These quizzes are online and generally 8-12 questions. An exam is given at the middle and end of the course. This course is appropriate for students who are in middle school and there are no prerequisites. Students can enroll at any time in the course and I have included the dates below for parents to see where we are in the course. After completing the following, we will loop back to the start of the topics. 1. Week of March 10: Lecture 1: World of Physical Science Lecture 2: Properties of Matter 2. Week of March 17: Lecture 1: States of Matter Lecture 2: Matter Cont. 3. Week of March 24: Lecture 1: Elements Compounds and Mixtures Lecture 2: Elements Compounds and Mixtures Cont. 4. Week of March 31: Lecture 1: Matter and Forces in Motion Lecture 2: Matter and Forces in Motion cont. 5. Week of April 7 Lecture 1: Matter and Forces in Motion cont. Lecture 2: Forces in Fluids 6. Week of April 14 Lecture 1: Work, Machines, and Energy Lecture 2: Work, Machines, and Energy cont. 7. Week of April 21 Lecture 1: Mid-Term Review Lecture 2: Introduction to Atoms 8. Week of April 28 Lecture 1: The Periodic Table Lecture 2: The Periodic Table cont. 9. Week of May 5 Lecture 1: Chemical Bonding Lecture 2: Chemical Bonding cont. 10. Week of June 9 Lecture 1: Waves, Sound and Light Lecture 2: Waves, Sound and Light cont. 15. Week of June 16 Lecture 1: Waves, Sound and Light cont. Lecture 2: Overall Review FAQ Is this a full year course? Yes! This is a full course for middle school physical science, but condensed into one "semester" or 15 weeks. This course is great for homeschool students, students wanting to learn physical science and more! Will my student receive a grade? Yes! I will keep track of quiz and exam grades for the student. Parents can request this grade any time during the course. Can I opt out of a grade? Yes! If you do not want a grade for the course but still want to see the quizzes, tests, and readings let me know. I will give you access to the entire course. What is your background? I have a MS and PhD in Chemistry. I have taught hundreds of classes in Chemistry and Biology from high school to graduate level.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I am Dr. K!
I have a PhD in Chemistry. I have over 10 years of teaching experience with both children and adults! I have taught thousands of classes in Biology, Chemistry, and some in between (Biochemistry, Ecology, etc).
My biggest philosophy behind teaching is making every concept applicable to the things around us. We can read a textbook and learn about atoms and bonds, but relating that to real world concepts is how we will really grasp the concepts in my classes.
