Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Are you ready to dive into a fun summer camp with STEM topics? We will be exploring biology, chemistry and environmental science throughout the 5 recurring topics below. Don't worry if you missed a class, the classes will repeat once we come to the end!

Does your student have a topic they are dying to learn about? I love adding new topics so please message me and I can try to add another week to our camp!

Week 1 (Week of June 24th): Density and Chemistry

Introduction to Density: Understanding the concept and its importance in chemistry.
Chemistry Basics: Overview of elements, compounds, and chemical reactions.
Interactive Experiment: Exploring density through hands-on activities with different substances.

Week 2 (Week of July 1st): Colligative Properties and Ice Cream Making

Colligative Properties: Learning how solutes affect the properties of solutions.
Ice Cream Science: Understanding the chemistry behind making ice cream.
DIY Ice Cream: Making ice cream together using household ingredients.

Week 3 (Week of July 8th): DNA and Proteins

DNA Structure: Exploring the double helix structure and its components.
Protein Basics: Introduction to amino acids, protein structure, and function.
Candy DNA Activity: Constructing a DNA model with candy and toothpicks.

Week 4 (Week of July 15th): Environmental Science and Water Filtration

Environmental Issues: Understanding the impact of human activities on the environment.
Water Pollution: Learning about different pollutants and their effects on water quality.
Water Filtration Project: Designing and testing water filtration systems virtually.

Week 5 (Week of July 22nd): Polymer Science and DIY Polymer

Introduction to Polymers: Understanding the properties and uses of polymers.
Types of Polymers: Exploring natural and synthetic polymers.
DIY Polymer Experiment: Making a polymer together online using common household items.

Each session will blend informative presentations with interactive activities to engage participants and encourage their interest in STEM topics! Most of the activities will need to be performed after class time due to time constraints (such as making ice cream), but detailed instructions are given after class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I am Dr. K!

I have a PhD in Chemistry. I have over 10 years of teaching experience with both children and adults! I have taught thousands of classes in Biology, Chemistry, and some in between (Biochemistry, Ecology, etc).

My biggest philosophy behind teaching is making every concept applicable to the things around us. We can read a textbook and learn about atoms and bonds, but relating that to real world concepts is how we will really grasp the concepts in my classes.
