US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
To start each class, I will present the letter of the day. It will be shown in uppercase and lowercase. Once the letter is introduced, we will watch about 2 minutes of a Jack Hartmann video. This video helps students learn their letters through song. I will pause the video as it plays so it is an interactive experience. For example, we will be writing the letter in the air, which will help a kinesthetic learner. Once the video is over, we will practice writing our letters. The worksheet provided will provide a gradual release of responsibility - I will model how we write the letters, the students will practice through tracing and finally they will independently write the letters on lined paper. To continue our work on letter identification, we will complete a scavenger hunt worksheet as we look for our given letter. Students can complete this worksheet with their favorite color crayon! We will tie in everything we learned with a mixed skills sheet - students will color the letter, trace and write the letter, circle the letter in a given assortment and sort uppercase and lowercase through a cut and paste activity. All worksheets will be posted in the classroom the day before the class. Students will only be focusing on one letter a day to ensure understanding and mastery. We will review all letters towards the end of this course. Teacher expertise and credentials
New York Teaching Certificate in Special Education
Master's Degree in Education from Fordham University
Hello, I am so excited for the opportunity to work with your child. As a new mom, I have decided to step away from the classroom but I wanted to continue to use my passion for teaching young students.
I graduated from the University of Hartford in 2014 after studying Elementary and Special Education. I received my Master’s in Special Education from Fordham University in 2016. I have been teaching full-time since 2014 in various grades - from Kindergarten to 3rd Grade. I have experience with remote teaching, so I will be able to create an engaging experience for your child during our virtual session.
While I do offer some small-group classes, my favorite thing to do on Outschool is 1:1 tutoring - both in ELA and Math. I love teaching foundational reading and math skills. For example, I enjoy guided reading lessons that teach students how to decode words and better comprehend the story. I also enjoy teaching sight words through games. In Math, I enjoy teaching all operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) through visuals and manipulatives. It is crucial that students understand the foundational skills so they are set up for future success.
Having classroom experience, I will be able to assess your child to see what their individual needs are and how to best support them. An example of an assessment would be a Running Record - which helps to determine your child’s reading level. I will communicate with you after each lesson and discuss the next steps we will work on to help your child succeed.
*Most of my tutoring schedule is done by request, so please send me a message and we can coordinate a time :)
