🦸🏾‍♀️ Welcome to the "Grade 5 Math Marvels" class, where I, an experienced 5th-grade educator with 20 years of teaching under my belt, am here to guide students on their journey to math mastery. This ongoing curriculum support class is designed to help students excel in math by focusing on key Common Core skills relevant to 5th-grade mathematics. Class sessions are held weekly, and students have the option to engage in additional assignments after class.

Structure and Learning Supports for the Curriculum Course

 Course Structure:

- Live Class (Twice a Week): Each week, students will participate in a live class session that focuses on the most challenging and essential topics. These sessions will include interactive lessons, direct instruction, and opportunities for students to ask questions and engage in discussions.
  
Math Fluency Game: Each live class will begin with a math fluency game to engage students and build foundational skills in a fun and interactive way.

Independent Work (3 Days a Week): For the rest of the week, students will complete independent work using the Zearn platform. This work will reinforce the concepts covered in the live class and provide additional practice through interactive digital lessons.

Learning Supports:

1. Interactive Lessons:
   - Zearn lessons are designed to be interactive and engaging, with a combination of videos, animations, and practice problems that cater to different learning styles.
   
2. Differentiated Instruction:
   - The course will offer differentiated instruction during live classes to meet the diverse needs of students. This includes using visual aids, manipulatives, and real-world examples to explain complex concepts.
   
3. Guided Practice:
   - During live sessions, students will have guided practice opportunities to apply new concepts with the support of the teacher. This ensures they understand the material before moving on to independent work.
   
4. Immediate Feedback:
   - Zearn provides immediate feedback on independent work, helping students understand their mistakes and learn from them in real-time. This helps in reinforcing learning and improving accuracy.

This structured approach, combined with the robust support system, ensures that students receive comprehensive instruction and ample practice, leading to a deeper understanding and mastery of math concepts.

Students will understand the place value system and be able to read, write, and compare decimals to the thousandths.

Students will add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by finding equivalent fractions.
