1st Grade Math Skills

Fall Semester
This is an engaging ongoing class that will practice 1st grade math skills. Student can join this class at any time and be able to participate with the other students.   Each class will practice the basic math principles that 1st graders should be fluent in by the end of 1st grade.  The classes will have a mixture of topics that will rotate along with number sense, solving word problems and basic operations using base ten. Students are encouraged to come everyday Tuesday and Thursday to get the most well-rounded review. The class will be engaging and interactive using lots of manipulatives and fun activities that I have used in my classroom as an intervention tutor in math.  The general activities that will be included are: 
1. Fun, active rote counting activity.  (counting to 200, skip counting by 5's, 10's, 2's, counting on and back from a given number)
2. Engaging number sense activity. ( <,>,=, 1 more, 1 less, 10 more, 10 less, reading and writing numbers to 100)
3.  Mental math strategy (+0/+1. -0/-1, counting on, counting back, doubles, doubles +1, make 10, decomposing to make 10, number line)
4.  Addition and Subtraction word problems to 20 
5.  Properties of math (commutative, associative)
6.  Base 10 (using Tens and Ones Chart, unix cubes, etc. to show value of numbers and teach 2-digit addition)   
5. Special topics will be discussed and practiced such as
                       money (name of coin, value of coin, adding coins together, word problems related to $)
                       time (hour, 1/2 hour, analog and digital) and graphing (pictographs, bar graphs)
                       geometry (2D basic shapes, 3D shapes, composite shapes, introducing fractions/whole, 1/2, 1/4)
                       measurement (English standards for measuring inch, foot, yard, ounce, pound, ton, cup, pint, half gallon, gallon)
Plans will be submitted a month at a time:

To accommodate more students' schedules, this class has been changed from a 30 min 4 days a week class to a 45 min class 2 days a week.  This will run opposite days of the first grade phonics and reading class which is a 45 min class 3 days a week.  I trust that this change will make scheduling easier for my students.
