課堂經歷
**This class is scheduled upon request. Please press the "Request Another Time Button" or scoll down to "Ask a Question" to get into contact with me and to find a time that works for both of our schedules. I look forward to hearing from you! This is a one to one private class focused on social and emotional skill building. I work from a connection-based perspective where the relationship between myself and your learner is paramount, allowing your child to feel seen and heard. The parent can choose the focus of the lessons and I will provide the skills and background knowledge that I believe are important for well-rounded understanding of each focused skill-set. Parents are encouraged to share more about their learner so that I can better understand each learner's unique goals for growth and create opportunities for personalized practice/role-plays. Important Note: This class is not individual therapy but rather intended to help learners gain beneficial skills to thrive in relationship with themselves and others. This class will be focused on techniques and strategies. Each class is followed-up with an in-depth summary of the lesson content including 4-5 additional action steps to engage with between classes to allow for practice of the skills and strategies. Each focused skill-set is a 4 week commitment. However, with an ongoing class style, payment is made each week and the class can be cancelled at any time if required. We can also continue to build on the initial skills and extend our time together. Please contact me directly with schedule suggestions and I will do my best to accomodate your preferred class time. Focus Skill-Set #1: Anger Management and Impulse Control Skills, Knowledge and Strategies: -Self-control as a foundation to emotional-regulation -The power of thoughts and how thoughts create our feelings -Frustration tolerance -Physical reactions to anger -Brain science behind anger -Peaceful problem-solving strategies -Mindfulness and breathing strategies Focus Skill-Set #2: Overcoming Worry and Anxiety Skills, Knowledge and Strategies: -How worry shows-up in our bodies -How our brain reacts to worry -Understanding the fight or flight response -Skills for anxiety management -How thoughts create our feelings -Mindfulness and calming strategies Focus Skill-Set #3: Social Thinking, Social Skills, Friendship, and Self-Confidence Skills, Knowledge and Strategies: -Keys to communication: non-verbals and physical presence, social cues -How to make friends: relating to others and striking up a conversation -What to do when you feel shy or uncomfortable being in the spotlight -Meeting and making friends: how to balance talking about yourself and learning about others, how to grow friendships -Speaking up and how to stay true to yourself: accepting different perspectives, enforcing boundaries -How to handle fights and hurt feelings -Developing confident thoughts I teach with a fun, engaging, upbeat style and my goal is to plant the seeds of emotional intelligence so that your learner will enjoy discovering invaluable life lessons about themselves and others while having fun. Interactive activities and role plays are utilized to help learn the skills for each focused skill-set. A mindfulness activity to help your learner practice breath work and thought focus will be included in each class. I will provide you with a summary for each class and additional action steps to practice the new skills and concepts outside of class-time to help build new healthy habits. Please remember that social and emotional maturity takes years to develop and that the brain only reaches maturity at the age of 25. The best thing that we can do as parents is to model the behavior that we wish to see in our children, provide opportunities for social and emotional learning, and to provide a safe space to practice these skills. I have earned a Master's degree in Counselling Psychology, I have 8 years experience facilitating mental health training to adults and I have been teaching popular classes on Outschool over the last two years. Teaching the next generation about emotional intelligence is a passion of mine. I love teaching on Outschool! Positive social and emotional development is so critical. According to research, social and emotional learning offers the benefits of academic success, fewer behavioral problems, less emotional distress, and positive social behavior. Topics will not be therapeutic in nature. Concepts that will be discussed include: self-regulation and impulse control, identifying feelings, learning how feelings present physically in the body, how our brain reacts to different feelings and calming strategies to manage big emotions.
