🎦Please be aware that keeping your video enabled is a requirement for this course. If temporary circumstances require that a student needs to attend a single meeting without video enabled, please contact me and I may make an exception. (Students will still be required to check in on video at the beginning of class as this is OS safety policy. 🎦) This class will consist of 12 lessons to help middle- school age children better understand and control their impulses. All of the topics listed below listed below both require impulse control and are an essential building block of impulse control. Activities/discussion may vary a bit depending on the number of students involved. That said, worksheets and drawing activities will commonly be used during this class. We will also practice impulse control through various activities. There will also be discussion questions posted in the classroom prior to the lesson. We may discuss some of these during class. You can also use these question ideas as a way to engage your learner outside of meetings. Examples include: What do you think of other people your age who don't use impulse control? What about those who do use impulse control? What makes one decision more important than another? What are some ways that kids can relax and better control impulses when they are having strong emotions? I will also post worksheets to the classroom that are additional resources/activities for students/parents. You can print these out and complete them between lessons if you like to reinforce and practiced concepts learned in class. We will often go over some of these in class, but students will usually not need to have them printed to participate (though they are welcome to print them). If something does need to be printed to participate fully in the lesson, this will be included in the information that I send out before each individual meeting. 💥💥Because a I usually allow parents to decide when new sections start and because many parents want to take every lesson in the course, the sections of this course are on different schedules. Below is a link to my ongoing course schedule. 💻https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/6/d/e/2PACX-1vRxG9YC5nZaIkaHcEg3q16AHCCXtnw92atCJqVypJpTDZlJxrwa_IDApucvo5c1W13AbXAUZA1553vT/pubhtml?gid=0&single=true This will give you information about where a particular section is in the curriculum. Lessons can be taken in any order and I will continue teaching sections by starting over once I reach the end of the topic list unless otherwise noted on the schedule linked above. If students begin to share sensitive information, I am very skilled in using empathy and redirection to keep the class on topic. I will also reach out to parents as needed and parents are encouraged to contact me if they have any questions or concerns.
We do talk about dating relationships during topic 12 of this class. The goal of this lesson is to understand what healthy dating relationships look like for this age range and how to refrain from making impulsive decisions. If parents have questions about this topic (or any other topic) you are encouraged to contact me :)
Blooket & Gimkit will be used for this class to review class material. (I alternate based on student preferences.) Students will access this via a link sent in the chat during the class meeting. I may also provide "homework" links in the classroom for students who wish to play class-based games between meetings. Students do not need a blooket or gimkit account, but are free to use one if the have one.
YouTube will also be used during this class. It will be used to play videos to support some of the lessons during meetings. All videos will be appropriate for the subject matter and age range of the students in the class. None of the content will be graphic and I do not anticipate that any of it will be scary for learners. If you have questions about videos that will be used in class, please feel free to reach out to me. Video links will not be given to students. If a video is particularly helpful to a group and they request that it be shared in a classroom post, I will share it and they will be able to view the video via the OS classroom. A YouTube account is not required.
受講に必要なもの
It is wise for students to have access to paper and pencil and basic coloring supplies as these will often be used in class. Though this is not required, it is often helpful to have printed sheets for class. (The sheets that will be discussed during class will be listed in the classroom post.) Other materials will be posted to the classroom several days before the lesson and will always be common household items. Students should still come to class even if they are not able to have these supplies as they will still be able to learn from class :)
