週1時間. Students will be encouraged to practice concepts learned in class. Students will also be given access to optional worksheets to re-enforce topic content. Activities include things like: Word Searches, puzzles, helpful thought identification, etc. Parents/students are encouraged to email me with any questions that they have. It doesn't matter if you complete one topic or all 13, I am here to help :)

📢 ATTENTION: I am having a baby in mid-September. As such, this class will close at the end of the current lesson cycle and will not repeat. I will have a self-paced version of this class available during most of my maternity leave for those who are interested. I plan to be on maternity leave until the end of the calendar year. I may continue to see 1:1 coaching students sporadically during that time if they would like. I would love to have your student in my class until that time, but I wanted to post this so that any new families could make an informed decision before signing up for my classes. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions.📢

🎦Please be aware that keeping your video enabled is a requirement for this course. If temporary circumstances require that a student needs to attend a single meeting without video enabled, please contact me and I may make an exception. (Students will still be required to check in on video at the beginning of class as this is OS safety policy. 🎦

This class will consist of 13 lessons to help elementary-age children better understand and control their impulses. Activities/discussion may vary a bit depending on the number of students involved. That said, worksheets and drawing activities will commonly be used during this class. We will also practice impulse control through various activities. There will also be discussion questions posted in the classroom prior to the lesson.  We may discuss some of these in class. Others are helpful for parents to keep the discussion going with your student after class if you wish.

Examples include: 
What are some impulses that  kids have at home? In the classroom?
What are some examples of poor choices? What are possible consequences?
What are some ways that kids can calm down/relax?

 I will also post worksheets to the classroom that are additional resources/activities for students and parents. They will be posted to the classroom several days before each class. You can print these out and complete them if you like to reinforce and practiced concepts learned in class. We will review some of these during class, but they do not need to be completed before class (though they can be).

 💥💥Because a I usually allow parents to decide when new sections start and because many parents want to take every lesson in the course, the sections of this course are on different schedules.  Below is a link to my ongoing course schedule.

This will give you information about where a particular section is in the curriculum. Lessons can be taken in any order and I will continue teaching sections by starting over once I reach the end of the topic list unless otherwise noted on the schedule linked above.

What is an impulse? What is impulse control?

The skill of self-evaluation. 

Topic 3:
The skill of considering consequences/thinking about the future.

Topic 4:
The skill of stop, then think, then act

Topic 5:
The skill of active listening.

Topic 6:
The skill of self-awareness

Topic 7:
The skill of managing anger.

Topic 8: 
The skill of managing anxiety.

Topic 9:
The skill of decision making.

Topic 10:
The skill of problem solving.

Topic 11:
The skills of patience & Tolerance. 

Topic 12:
The skill of empathy.

Topic 13:
 Social skills.

***Please Note: This is a skill based class meant to help children identify the need for and have the skills to use impulse control. This is in no way intended to be or replace professional therapy or support.***

💵GENERAL REFUND POLICY:  When students miss a group class, they are able to watch a video of the missed class and are encouraged to contact me with any questions. As such, I typically do not give refunds for missed classes. Additionally, I keep my prices on the low end of (or below) what OS recommends.   I do have a far more lenient refund policy for 1:1 classes because there is no video to watch and because these courses are much more expensive.

I know that this is sometimes frustrating to families. That is not my goal. My goal is to keep my prices affordable overall.☺️

Students will be invited to make feeling statements during some lessons of the class and to share their progress in managing their impulses as I am a strengths based teacher. They are never required to do this, and examples will be kept very basic such as "I feel angry when my sister takes my toy, but I use impulse control to not scream." The examples given are typical of children and are meant to help children understand the usefulness and application of the skills learned in class. Again, students can always decline. Videos from YouTube will often be used during class meetings. Links will not be given to students. If specifically requested, links can be sent to parents. Blooket will be used to play games about things learned in class (and occasionally about fun topics - i.e. food, animals - if students listen well and there is extra time.) Students can access the game via a link sent in the chat box by the teacher. Optional "homework" links of class quizzes may be posted to the classroom at student request. No account is needed for this, though students are welcome to use one if they have one.

It is wise for students to have access to paper and pencil and basic coloring supplies as these will often be used in class. Other materials will be posted to the classroom several days before the lesson and will always be common household items or handouts provided by the teacher.
