This is a tough and challenging class! 

If your student has never done VERY CHALLENGING math problems and you would like to get your students started with interesting math competition problems, we recommend starting with our lower level Competition Math classes or our Singapore Math classes.

Recommended for homeschoolers or as an after school supplement class.

CLASS EXPERIENCE

This is a class that provides an opportunity for students to ask questions and gain clarity on the steps and strategies for the challenging problems in each test set. We will leave the easier questions for students to work out on their own.  Or we recommend that they can take the 5-6 Competition Math class that will cover the easier questions. 

Students work out problems during class with assistance from the teacher.  If a student needs assistance when the teacher is teaching, we recommend that students use chat so that other students can continue to attempt the problems.

After students have had a good length of time to work on the problems, then there will be a discussion as a group to help students to better understand different problem-solving processes to get the correct answer, as well as pitfalls to avoid.

We will cover AMC questions at a rate of roughly 6-8 questions per session. During these sessions, we will discuss strategies and techniques. We want students to be introduced to the AMC test.  If they feel prepared for the test, we suggest that students try and enter the competition. Early sign-ups are in October and can be set up through local schools.

This class is for students who have the knowledge base and exposure to the topics in the AMC AND have attempted problems like this before. In general, we will go at a medium pace, rather than a fast pace. So students will have time to think and attempt every problem, but they may not be able to solve every problem if they run out of time. We will focus on questions seen in the AMC 8.  

Extremely advanced students may want to study on their own, and attend classes from time to time for a refresher.
