Class Experience

Beginner - Intermediate Level
Telling time on an analog clock can be a tricky concept for learners. They may not have daily contact with many analog clocks, as many places are choosing to use digital clocks. However, this is still a skill that is important to learn, and it is a math standard to master.

In this positive and encouraging class, learners will have the opportunity to learn how to tell time. Learners should bring paper and pencil to class. A whiteboard and dry erase marker are fine as well. I will use my teaching clock to demonstrate in each class. Students will be actively engaged by reading the times on the clock and writing down the time on their paper.

In this 60-minute class, we will progress through the following skills as much as we can. If your learner is new at telling time, more than one session will be necessary to learn all of the steps.

Why we need and use clocks
Overview of the parts of a clock (hour hand, minute hand)
Time to the hour (5:00, 5 o'clock)
Time to the half hour (5:30)
Time to the quarter hour - quarter after (5:15) and quarter till (5:45)
Time to five minute increment

If your learner has any special needs, please let me know how I can help make him/her feel comfortable in class. I always strive to help every learner feel accepted, confident, and competent. I look forward to seeing your learner in this time-telling class!

Learning Goals

Learners will practice telling time to the hour, half hour, quarter hour, and five minute increments.

Other Details

Learning Needs
As a mother of an amazingly autistic teen, I understand and strongly believe that all learners need to feel safe and comfortable. Before class, if there is anything I should know that would help your learner succeed, please let me know!
Supply List
Learners will need paper and a pencil. They could also bring a white board and a dry eraser marker. If a learner has a practice clock, they are welcome to bring that to class as well, but it is not necessary.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
